The Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 scanner is a document-munching powerhouse, reviewers say, handling double-sided pages and color with aplomb at 25 pages a minute, helped by its 75-page feeder. One expert says the resulting scans are the best he's seen in a document scanner. The WorkForce Pro GT-S50's energy-efficient ReadyScan LED technology means users don't have to wait for it to warm up and adds to its energy efficiency. Although it can be used to scan business cards, one expert says the included software for doing that is not the best, since only card can be scanned at a time. The WorkForce Pro GT-S50 is compatible with Macs and PCs.
It's a document scanner, but a good one. Scanners intended for documents are never going to turn out high quality photo scans, but the 600-dpi Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 produces the best color photo scans of the document scanners on the market, one reviewer says. And all praise its performance with text.
The hardware is easy, but the software has a learning curve. Users say the Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 scanner itself installs easily and works without issue, but the included software isn't always intuitive. The business card software in particular only scans one card at a time, which can prolong the process of working through a stack of cards, users say.
A well-made machine. Most users of the Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 document scanner compliment its ability to keep on churning out scans thousands of pages later. One Amazon.com reviewer says that after 20,000 pages, his Epson doesn't skip or double-feed a page, unlike his Fujitsu document scanner with the same mileage.
A good warranty, some customer service complaints. The one-year limited warranty on the Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 is standard among better-quality scanners, and most users report never having to take advantage of it. Those that do, however, report a sometimes frustrating experience.

Review Credibility: Excellent M. David Stone gives the WorkForce Pro GT-S50 a 4 out of 5 rating; his "bottom line" reads: "The Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 scanner is impressive enough to earn high marks despite software that's best described as capable but a little hard to get started with." In addition to the steep learning curve on the scanning software, Stone finds fault with the program for scanning business cards, which scans only one card at a time. Otherwise he has nothing but praise for this sheet-fed scanner. A highlight for him is that "there's nothing in the Epson scanner's price range that comes close to it for speed."
