Building upon the successful ScanSnap S500, critics are pleased to find Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 retains all the best aspects of its predecessor and makes it even better with key improvements to software and speed. According to experts, no other document scanner on the market comes close to the S510's performance and feature set, which includes a 50-page automatic document feeder with automatic duplex scanning, a scan speed of 18 pages per minute and a sophisticated software bundle. This scanner is meant for batch-scanning office documents; it's not a flatbed scanner. For a more flexible general-use scanner, reviewers like the Canon CanoScan 8800F (Discontinued). The S510 has since been replaced by the well-reviewed Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 (*Est.$415).
Macworld's Joe Kissell is among the experts to have reviewed the ScanSnap S500, exploring the differences between the new model and its predecessor. Users at Amazon.com and Newegg.com have also weighed in. For those looking for even more insight, older reviews of the S500 might have some relevance as its hardware and specifications are very similar to its newer replacement.

Joe Kissell's review covers all major points but compares the Fujitsu ScanSnap S510M (the Mac version of the scanner) only to the previous three versions of itself. That said, Macworld gives the ScanSnap S510M 4.5 out of five "mice." Kissell is also impressed with the bundled software, which he says "alone is worth far more than the scanner itself."
