Bottom Line

The Teton Sports Mammoth represents a comfortable, even luxurious, portable sleeping option for couples and families with a small child who can't or won't bunk alone.

Performance

Multi-season use. Available in two temperature ratings, the Teton Sports Mammoth is a good choice for summer and winter camping alike. Finding the right sleeping bag for couples or parents with young children can be a Goldilocks situation - everything is too big, too small, too cold or too hot. The Teton Sports Mammoth does a great job in letting families choose the best option.

Side and bottom zippers allow sleepers to adjust the temperature on their side of the bag without disturbing their companions. Summer campers can choose the lighter bag, while those who like to play in the snow can get more insulation for a small bump in price. "This is the warmest sleeping bag I have ever bought," one Amazon.com contributor writes.

The rectangular shape provides width and maneuvering room so sleepers don't feel constrained by the sides, but the neck and zipper baffles stop the bag from getting too cold if there's room to spare.

Comfort

A bed-away-from-bed. Many users write in their reviews that the Teton Sports Mammoth is as comfortable as their bed at home thanks to the all-cotton flannel interior lining. Plus it's easy to clean. Users describe it as "fluffy" and "soft," and praise its roominess for big-framed adults.

The zippers, and thus venting, are key to the bag's success. Reviewer Tim Miner calls the full-length zippers "the easiest I've used."

Ownership

Difficult to pack. All that comfort and roominess comes at the cost of portability. The Teton Sports Mammoth tips the scales at 15 pounds, too heavy for backpacking. Many users say it's challenging to re-pack the bag after use because of its size and loft. The editors of Camping-Essentials.org say weight isn't an issue if you use the bag as intended. Users who will enjoy this product the most are likely the ones driving to campsites, keeping it in a motorhome or using it for backyard sleepovers.

Teton Sports offers a limited lifetime warranty for materials and workmanship. Due to user complaints about the difficulty of re-stuffing the bag in its storage sack, Teton Sports issued a how-to video on their website to demonstrate packing their Mammoth bags.
