Toro Power Clear 421Q 38588

Pros
  • Four-cycle, overhead valve engine
  • Sliding chute control on handle
  • Self-propelled
  • Two-year Guaranteed to Start promise
Cons
  • Expensive for single-stage blower
  • For use on paved, flat surfaces only

The single-stage Toro Power Clear 421Q snow blower is the top-of-the-line Power Clear model, and the only Toro single-stage blower powered by a four-cycle engine. The 421Q 38588 (Discontinued) has electronic ignition but no electric starter; the 421Q 38589 (*Est. $850) has an electric starter. Both models have a 21-inch clearing path and are rated to clear 1,800 pounds of snow per minute. If you want a less-expensive Toro single-stage blower, the Toro Power Clear 210R 38587 (Discontinued) also has a 21-inch clearing path but is powered by a two-cycle engine.

Both 421Q models are recommended as best in the prosumer (i.e., advanced consumer) category by the online retailer SnowBlowersDirect.com, and owner reviews appear on the site as well. The Quality Snow Blower Guy at QualitySnowBlower.com reviews the 421Q and gives it high marks, with or without the electric starter. A Toro-made video on YouTube demonstrates the features of Toro's Power Clear single-stage blowers.

The Quality Snow Blower Guy writes, "For a single stage snow blower, the Toro 421Q is surprisingly heavy duty. But it will still be easy to use and easy to maneuver, and it won't set you back an unreasonable amount of money."
