Yokohama Geolandar i/T G072

Pros
  • Great grip on snowy, wet and dry roads
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Handling is judged only fair
  • Average ice braking in one test
  • Noisy
  • Higher rolling resistance than rivals

Experts say the Yokohama Geolandar i/T G072 is a fine winter tire for light trucks and SUVs -- just not as superior on ice as the top-rated Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1 (*Est. $130). Although some experts recommend the Yokohama as a great choice for driving on ice thanks to its soft tread compound, and it does a good job with ice braking in one leading test, the Blizzak and some other competitors handle ice even better. The Yokohama tire does match the Blizzak's outstanding snow traction in one test, and it brakes better on wet and dry roads than the Blizzak. But the Yokohama displays a high rolling resistance in that test, which can mean poor gas mileage. Some experts and owners also complain that the Yokohama is noisy, although they say it provides a comfortable-feeling ride.

ConsumerReports.org includes the Yokohama Geolandar i/T G072 in its latest comprehensive test of winter tires for light trucks and SUVs. Canada's Automobile Protection Association recommends the Yokohama, but without mentioning any testing. We found owner feedback for this tire at 1010Tires.com, a retail website.
