Pros
  • Spam is essentially eliminated
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Too restrictive for some

CA Anti-Spam Plus CA Website Inspector 2008 uses what's known as a whitelist; it allows only email from addresses on your contact list. Reviews either love it or hate it. On the plus side, there is virtually no chance you'll ever get spam. On the downside, you won't get email from a friend of a friend who is not in your address book yet. Reviews suggest this product, which works as a Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express plug-in, is a good choice for novices because unlike some spam filters, you don't have to "train" the program about which kinds of files to block. You can review quarantined messages and add some to your approved list.

We found no professional reviews that evaluate the 2008 version of CA Anti-Spam Plus CA Website Inspector 2008. There is credible coverage of previous versions in ConsumerReports.org and Smart Computing, but access is limited to subscribers. Cyberwalker.com has good, free coverage of an older and scaled-down version.
