The Infiniti G is a well-liked runner-up to the top-rated 2011 BMW 3 Series sedan (Base MSRP: $34,600 to $44,150) sports sedan. For 2011, the G series gets a new entry-level model: the Infiniti G25 sedan. For information on the carryover Infiniti G37 model, see our page on the 2010 Infiniti G37 sedan (Base MSRP $33,250 to $43,350).
The 2011 Infiniti G25 is identical to the G37 but with a smaller, less powerful engine and a lower price. The G25 is powered by a 218-horsepower, 2.5-liter V6, with the same seven-speed automatic transmission and choice of rear- or all-wheel-drive as the G37. The Environmental Protection Agency had not yet posted fuel-economy estimates for 2011 Infiniti G models when we checked, but the 2010 Infiniti G37 gets 20 to 22 mpg combined with its 328-horsepower, 3.7-liter V6.
Safety ratings are based on the 2010 Infiniti G37 sedan. It earns the highest possible scores in front- and side-crash tests, except for a 4-star rating (out of 5) in one government test for protecting the front passenger in a frontal crash. Its rear-crash protection is Marginal in tests at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and its rollover roof strength has not yet been evaluated there. Standard safety features include antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and front, front-side and curtain airbags.
Base MSRP for the 2011 Infiniti G sedan ranges from $30,950 for the new entry-level G25 sedan with rear-wheel drive to $44,000 for the AWD G37x Limited Edition.
