Although the Audi A4 Avant wagon is not recommended as often as the top-ranked premium BMW 3-Series wagon (*est. $34,200 to $36,100) or close runner-up Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon (*est. $55,700 to $85,800), the Audi A4 Avant offers an equally roomy interior and standard all-wheel-drive for a lower base price than the BMW 3-series and substantially less than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Furthermore, reviews say the Audi's upscale cabin actually outclasses pricier premium wagons. The Audi A4 Avant is also one of the safest wagons on the road, and it gets better fuel economy than the BMW or Mercedes wagons. However, although testers find the Audi A4 Avant handles and rides well, they say it's not as fun to drive as the BMW 3-Series.
Edmunds.com, ConsumerGuide.com and the Institute for Consumer Automotive Research all rank the Audi A4 Avant station wagon against other full-size premium wagons, including the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagons. Although it isn't comparative, CarCritic.com's review of the Audi A4 Avant wagon is useful because it focuses on the model's newly improved reliability. The National Motorist Association includes the Audi A4 wagon in its "Best New Cars for 2008" feature, although it does not provide a lot of information about the car.
