Fire hazard!, November 18, 2009
Works great until it catches fire! I used mine for nearly two years with no problems, then it started smoking after being turned on for about 45 minutes. I unplugged it immediately and took it outside. It continued smoking for at least 10 minutes. Now the soleplate is separated from the base. This iron is too dangerous! I'm going back to my $20 Black and Decker.
Big Disappointment, November 13, 2009

I use my iron mainly for sewing (home decorating and apparel). In December 2007 I decided to upgrade my $20, 15-year-old steam iron. After researching on line and reading many glowing recommendations, I purchased the Rowenta Advancer DZ9080. After using it for nearly two years, this is what I found: PROS: * The large soleplate and many vents provide great steam for regular steam ironing * Heavy, especially with a full reservoir, which is good for short ironing stints. CONS: * Heavy, especially with a full reservoir, which is uncomfortable and tiring for longer ironing sessions. * No "on/off" switch. The most "off" you can achieve is to set it to "Min". * Not a real "auto shutoff"; it goes to "Min". * The "burst of steam" button is just that--a burst. You can't use it continually and need to wait at least 4 seconds between bursts. * Steam vents clog quickly (probably a function of our hard water) but the "self-clean" setting doesn't really clear them. (I used a full reservoir and "burst of steam" button over a sink to clear most of them after the "self-clean" did little.) * If you don't keep the steam vents clean, they will unclog onto your ironing when you use the "burst of steam" feature. With all of that said, I didn't find the "cons" to be that bad and it would have earned a 4-star review from me but for the leaking. After only 15 months of use, water started leaking from the bottom of the iron while sitting cold--not just a few drops, either. I tried cleaning it but the problem persisted. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of this iron; I have never had such problems with the cheap irons I have used over the years. Since it was out of warranty and the cost to fix (even if it could have been fixed) would likely be more than the cost of the iron, I decided to replace it with a Reliable J490A steam generating iron.

Household products, November 10, 2009

I had researched the product because of a friend. She purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond and paid $30.00 more than from Amazon.com. Because of the cost, the iron qualified for the free shipping. It irons like a dream. One thing to note is that it is heavier than your normal iron but it has a lot more steam vents. Due to the weight and amount of steam most times it is only necessary to go over the item once.

Doesn't last long, October 23, 2009

I bought this product less than two years ago and was very pleased with it's performance. It worked very well until the internal thermostat broke. It began as a burnt smell while I was routinely ironing, then it burnt my ironing board cover. I tried self cleaning it then let it cool down. When I tried using it again, the yellow light blinked off and on but the iron never heated up again. Rowenta customer service told me the internal thermostat was broken and the iron would have to be shipped for repair, at my expense. No thank you. An iron at this price should last more than two years.

Rowenta DZ9080 Advancer, October 19, 2009

I have purchased 2 Rowenta DZ 9080 irons within the past year. Iwas optimistic that the first was a lemon, and I wouldn't get burned again (sorry for the play on words). NEVER again!! Both were pieces of junk, and fizzled out within 3 months. The Rowenta people should be ashamed for unleashing such a shoddy product on the world. Both had exactly the same problem: They worked well for a month or two, then shorted out/burned internally, and died a miserable death. Phone calls/e-mails to the Rowenta people went unanswered. In German, the word "Rowenta" means "lousy customer service". DON'T BUY Rowenta!! It's nothing but overpriced garbage.
