The Rowenta Professional DX8800 is loaded with extra features including an ergonomic, non-slip handle, self-cleaning system, anti-drip system, variable steam, vertical steaming (for curtains or hanging garments) and cool mist spray. However, it lacks the 400 steam vents and tapered tip included in other Rowenta irons, and we read several complaints from owners that the anti-drip system doesn't work. While both experts and owners praise this steam iron's performance and say it delivers professional results, we read an alarming number of durability complaints, including two reports that this iron burst into flames while in use. Another Rowenta iron, the Rowenta Advancer DZ9080 (*Est. $120), is highly rated by experts and owners report fewer reliability problems.

Editors of ConsumerReports.org and Real Simple include the Rowenta Professional DX8800 in roundups of steam irons. We also found about 100 owner reviews for this model at Amazon.com and Buzzillions.com.
