At about 15 pounds, the Maclaren Techno XT umbrella stroller is said to be convenient and easy to use, and its fully reclining seat makes it appropriate for newborns (who need to lie flat). But we found more than a few complaints about an insufficiently padded seat, a too-small basket, and a tendency to tip over when empty. Maclaren is known for high-quality lightweight strollers, but reviewers say that others in the Maclaren lineup are better. For a slightly higher price, the Inglesina Zippy (*Est. $350) is a better-rated stroller that's more plush than the Maclaren Techno XT.

The Maclaren Techno XT stroller is the subject of a fair amount of reviews, ranging from professional testers at ConsumerReports.org and Baby-Gaga.com to parents' detailed reports on Baby World and Baby Centre (both British websites) and, in the U.S., Epinions.com and Amazon.com. Owners and experts basically have good things to say about the Maclaren Techno XT umbrella stroller, with some serious reservations.

2. Cookie Magazine

Cookie Magazine uses input from parent testers to rate 19 popular strollers, including the Maclaren Techno XT. Author Erin Renzas doesn't shy away from discussing the Techno's weaknesses like minimal hard-to-reach storage and mediocre maneuverability. Overall, though, she says the Techno is an excellent choice for "urban families looking for a solid, everyday stroller."

3. Baby-Gaga.com

This review covers both the Maclaren Techno XT stroller and Maclaren Techno Classic (now discontinued). Stroller ratings on this site are based on hands-on tests and parent interviews. The Maclaren Techno XT gets good scores in all categories (safety, convenience and comfort), with an A+ for driver comfort due to well-padded adjustable handles. However, the model tested is several years old.

4. Baby Bargains

"Baby Bargains" has a good section on Maclaren strollers in general, with a short write-up on the Techno XT. While we generally like this source for its thorough, unbiased analysis, there's not much detail on the Techno other than a features run-down and an overall grade for the Maclaren brand.

6. BabyCentre.co.uk

It's not clear how many parents are responsible for the reviews posted here, but the comments are very useful. As at other sites, the main complaints about the Maclaren Techno XT (which receives high marks overall) are its small basket and tendency to tip when empty.
