The Peg Perego Skate offers versatility with a removable bassinet that can double as a carry-cot and an easily reversible seat that reclines to three different positions. The Skate's chassis also adjusts to three different heights, which some reviewers say is ideal for using as an impromptu high chair at a restaurant. The Peg Perego Skate comes with an included rain cover and is compatible with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30-30 for use as a complete travel system. The zippered hood can be used with both the bassinet and the stroller seat, and features a mesh panel to allow airflow on warm days.
While the 2010 Skate is about 10 pounds lighter than the 2008 model, reviews say it's still heavy and bulky, and the weight limit of 45 pounds -- while ample for use for several years -- isn't as high as some other models. Opinions are mixed on the removable shopping basket, which has handles and collapses when not in use: Several reviews comment that a standard underneath storage basket would be more useful. Another improvement over the 2008 model is that the "freedom-of-movement" harness, which doesn't attach to the seat at the shoulders and is not a hit with consumers, has been replaced by a fully secured five-point harness.
ConsumerReports.org includes the Peg Perego Skate in its latest roundup of stroller testing, rating each model for safety, maneuverability and ease of use. Senior editors at BabyGizmo.com provide the most thorough individual product review, including a video review by senior editor Hollie Schultz. The 2010 edition of the baby-gear book "Baby Bargains" includes coverage of all current Peg Perego models, and we found additional single-product reviews on BabyDash.net and PishPoshBaby.com. Owner feedback is limited to less than 20 reviews on Amazon.com.

Hollie Schultz, senior editor of BabyGizmo.com, offers an in-depth look at the Peg Perego Skate, including a video demonstration. Schultz praises the removable bassinet and height-adjustable frame, which makes the Skate usable as an impromptu high chair. While she says the freedom-of-movement harness is good in theory, their child testers were able to escape. Note that the 2010 version of the Skate now offers a secure five-point harness.

4. Baby Dash
The owner of this blog was given a free Peg Perego Skate to test and one to give away to readers. Despite this, the review is well balanced. The author notes that she is surprised to learn that Peg Perego's 2010 Skate now has a separate bassinet in lieu of the former convertible seat; she says this creates an extra piece to travel with. She also praises the canopy, which contains a portion of mesh to allow air flow. Most importantly, she notes that the newer Skate now has a secure five-point harness, replacing the former "freedom-of-movement" harness that most parents disliked.
