Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer is a classic formula that remains popular among gradual sunless tanners. The formula combines body lotion with dihydroxyacetone (DHA) -- the active dyeing ingredient in tanners -- for a watered-down effect that adds a slight amount of color with each application. It's available in two shades: fair/medium and medium/tan.
Like all gradual tanners, Jergens Natural Glow is designed to be applied daily. It imparts a gradual, subtle tan that increases with each application and ensures that missed spots are less likely and less noticeable. The process also minimizes the risk of streaking. Experts say the formula is easy to apply -- just rub it in like any body lotion. Although some users don't like the added shine from the mica it contains, most agree that Jergens Natural Glow produces realistic color. The downside is that you'll have to wait at least three days to notice a difference in the color of your skin, but testers say skin can darken up to two shades after a week of daily use. Once you stop applying Jergens Natural Glow, experts say that it will fade within two to five days.
Paula Begoun says that compared to other self tanners, Jergens Natural Glow has a decent amount of plant oils that makes it "more emollient than most." Users at Drugstore. com, MakeupAlley.com and TotalBeauty.com agree. Most say the formula is moisturizing enough to use in place of a regular body lotion. Begoun suggests having a separate lotion available to use when you have reached your desired color with Jergens. See our report on Body Lotions for recommendations.
Like all sunless tanners, Jergens has a distinct odor. Most reviewers agree that it isn't as strong because it contains less DHA. Still, some cannot tolerate the smell at all.
Self-tanning lotions typically take longer to dry than sprays, gels and mousses. Although some users say that Jergens only takes 10 minutes to dry, experts typically recommend waiting 30 minutes before dressing to avoid staining clothing.
Users at MakeupAlley.com say that it takes at least two applications of Jergens Natural Glow to see results -- and even then they are very subtle. If you are looking for a deep tan, reviewers say that you should allow several days for the tan to develop. If you prefer instant results, experts say Mystic Tan UV-Free Spray-On Tanning (*Est. $25 per session) or Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel (Est. $35 for 4.4 oz.) are better options.
We chose to list Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer in our Best Reviewed section because the classic formula has stood the test of time and remains a popular, easy-to-use option among reviewers.

After testing several sunless tanners, writer Kim Forrest says Jergens Natural Glow is the most affordable and the most natural looking, but it involves the most work, because it must be applied daily. Forrest ultimately decides, however, that she doesn't like sunless tanners because they often impart an orange hue.
