Gradual sunless tanners like L'Oreal Sublime Glow are designed to be applied daily until your optimal color is achieved. It relies on a smaller dosage of dihydroxyacetone than instant self tanners. The formula also contains mica, which adds a bit a shimmer to the skin. While some users really like the luminescence it creates, others hate the added sparkle and say it looks unnatural. Most reviewers say the shimmer is subtle, however, and it washes off in the shower.
L'Oreal's tube packaging also receives a handful of complaints. Users at MakeupAlley.com say the formula is so runny that it easily leaks out of the tube. A few reviewers also note that it's difficult to close the lid completely.
Reviewers at MakeupAlley.com and Drugstore.com say that Sublime Glow goes on smoothly without a lot of effort. Like all gradual sunless tanners, it adds a small amount of color with each application -- gradually building into a deeper tan. The process makes streaks and blotchy color much less likely than with traditional instant tanners.
Sublime Glow contains vitamin E, mango butter and sweet almond oil for added moisture. Most users say the formula is very hydrating and leaves skin soft and smooth. Many also say that it smells better than other formulas although it still has a hint of telltale sunless tanner odor.
Sunless-tanning lotions may be the easiest to apply and offer the most consistent results, but they also take the longest to dry. In order to prevent staining reviewers recommend waiting at least 30 minutes to get dressed.
Although L'Oreal Sublime Glow Daily Moisturizer gets good reviews from consumers, it isn't reviewed as often as Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer (*Est. $8 for 7.5 oz.) nor is it as easy to find in stores. If you can find it, reviewers say it's worth a try -- as long as you can stand the subtle shimmer it leaves on your skin.
