February 2009. People who own the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO love it. Owners who write reviews about this tire say it wears well and never fails them off-road -- except in mud, where the All Terrain T/A KO tends to gum up and lose traction. Reviews of its snow and ice performance are mixed, and owners note that this tire is noisy on pavement. There is no treadwear warranty. Overall, experts prefer the Pirelli Scorpion ATR (*est. $125) for normal off-roading. If you need to drive in deep mud, reviews point to the Firestone Destination M/T (*est. $130).

Petersen's 4 Wheel & Off Road takes the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO off-road in a head-to-head test of three tires. More recent expert reviews have dropped this older tire model from their tests, but we found no shortage of thoughtfully written owner reviews at Tire Rack, Offroaders.com and Epinions.com.

1. Petersen's 4 Wheel & Off Road

The BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO loses Petersen's 4 Wheel & Off Road's three-tire head-to-head comparison to the Hankook DynaPro ATm RF10. The Hankook has the edge on sandy rock, and writer Kevin McNulty finds the BFGoodrich tire to be noisier than the Hankook or the Toyo Open Country A/T.

2. Tire Rack

Nearly 1,600 owners have rated the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO at Tire Rack, a well-known retail site. Reviewers have no recurring complaints about the tire -- except for a small decrease in on-road performance compared with other tires in its class -- but newer tires have surpassed it, and the T/A KO now rises only to ninth place among all-terrain tires.
