TurboTax Premier 2010 *Est. $70 Compare Prices

The New York Times: Tim Gray tests the premier boxed versions of TurboTax, H&R Block At Home and TaxACT. TurboTax Premier does the best job with his family's taxes, he says, pulling in investment information without a hitch and smoothly deducting a lean-burn vehicle credit for the family's new Volkswagen.

About.com: Shelley Elmblad, About.com's guide to financial software, tests the deluxe versions of TurboTax and H&R Block At Home.

MarketWatch.com: MarketWatch.com's Eva Rosenberg doesn't come right out and name a favorite, but she praises TurboTax's helpful extras, like a feature that provides values for donated items and its "nifty" visuals.

Amazon.com: TurboTax software gets the highest ratings overall from users at Amazon.com, and TurboTax Premier gets the highest ratings of all -- 4 stars out of 5 based upon about 50 customer reviews.

Best tax software for most

TurboTax Deluxe 2010 *Est. $50 Compare Prices

PCMag.com: This review is for the step-up TurboTax Premier version, but TurboTax Deluxe is very similar minus some specific guidance for investments, etc.

MarketWatch.com: The TurboTax lineup earns general praise from MarketWatch.com's Eva Rosenberg.

About.com: Shelley Elmblad, About.com's guide to financial software, tests the online deluxe version of TurboTax -- but her recommendation is for TurboTax in general.

Amazon.com: TurboTax Deluxe is the most reviewed tax software program at Amazon.com, although it earns only 3.5 stars (out of 5) overall.

CNET: CNET tests TaxACT Deluxe, which lacks only the free state-file option you get with TaxACT Ultimate.

The New York Times: Tim Gray tests the boxed version of TaxACT, and his main complaint about the software -- that it doesn't work on Macs -- doesn't apply to the online version, which works on Macs and PCs.

MarketWatch.com: MarketWatch.com's Eva Rosenberg lists TaxACT as one of her top five tax software choices, based on its features.

CNET: This review is for TaxACT Deluxe, but Jasmine France points out that TaxACT's Free Edition "is suitable for users with very basic e-filing needs." She also points out that you can start your return for free and upgrade to the deluxe edition if you decide you need it.
