All teeth whiteners carry the risk of some degree of tooth sensitivity, and some people are more susceptible to it than others. Although sensitivity and discomfort wear off after discontinuing any whitening regimen, they can be almost unbearable for some users. Fortunately, some whiteners -- like Supersmile Professional Whitening System (*Est. $40) -- are more gentle than others.
Supersmile's Whitening System consists of a whitening toothpaste and an accelerator. The two are used simultaneously while brushing your teeth. Manufacturers say the toothpaste removes surface stains by dissolving the protein pellicle -- "a thin layer of protein that forms on the tooth surface" and to which stains adhere. The accelerator relies on urea peroxide to fight stains below the surface of the tooth.
Users say the system works very well, producing noticeable results in about a week. Furthermore, it doesn't cause any sensitivity. Testers at TotalBeauty.com say the system lightened their teeth by about 3.5 shades. Editors at TeethWhiteningReviews.com agree that the formula works but say that it won't produce dramatic results.
Go Smile's system of whitening ampoules -- including Go Smile: B1 Whitening System (*Est. $50) and Go Smile: Smile Whitening System (*Est. $90) among others -- is also said to be very gentle. The ampoules are convenient to use; they can be used anywhere and don't require any rinsing. Reviewers say they cause little to no sensitivity, but whitening results are minimal.
Both Supersmile and Go Smile formulas are good options for sensitive teeth, but we choose Supersmile Professional Whitening System as the best whitening product for sensitive teeth because it earns more praise from users than either Go Smile system. Both formulas are safe on veneers, crowns and other dental work.
