- Expensive for an all-season tire
January 2009. Consumer Reports provides the best review of the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred, comparing it with other standard all-season tires in a series of thorough, objective tests. The Tire Rack also tests the TripleTred, but it includes fewer competing tires and no winter testing. Owner reviews often consider longer periods of time and provide more detail; more than 1,800 owners rate the TripleTred at The Tire Rack. We found far fewer owner ratings for the TripleTred at 1010Tires.com and Epinions.com. The manufacturer's official treadwear, heat-resistance and traction ratings, posted at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website, are also useful.
The Goodyear Assurance TripleTred is the most recommended all-season tire for passenger cars. It delivers excellent traction on both wet and dry pavement, although its performance on ice is mediocre in tests and in user ratings. The TripleTred costs more than other highly rated all-season tire, but owners say this tire's long tread life makes it a good value. For a budget all-season tire, critics recommend the Yokohama Avid TRZ (*est. $85); it carries an identical treadwear warranty, but reviews say it wears out faster than the TripleTred. For better grip in ice and snow, reviews point to a high-performance all-season tire, the Continental ContiExtremeContact (*est. $90). However, they note that the Continental wears out faster than either the Goodyear or the Yokohama tires.
