The Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 is less expensive than the better-rated high-performance summer tire, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (*Est. $235). Michelin touts the Pilot Exalto PE2 as a quieter, more easy-riding performance tire. Some experts agree, although others don't find much difference in that respect. They do see a difference in performance, however, with the Pilot Sport PS2 outclassing the Exalto on nearly every measure. Still, testers find no glaring drawbacks with the Exalto. Its government tread-wear rating is slightly higher than the Pilot Sport PS2's. The Exalto lasts much longer than the Pilot Sport PS2 in one expert tread-wear test, but owner opinions on this are all over the map: some say the Exalto wears out very quickly, while others say it lasts nicely.

ConsumerReports.org's review of the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 pits it directly against 20 of its closest competitors, including the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. TireRack.com also conducts an expert comparison test, but it includes only four tires. More than 100 owners rate the Pilot Exalto PE2 at TireRack.com. We found official government traction, tread-wear and heat-resistance ratings for the Pilot Exalto PE2 at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website.
