We read owner-written reviews for the DeLonghi DTT980 at Amazon.com and Cooking.com. The DTT980's close cousin, the DTT900, earns high marks in credible professional reviews at Slate.com for its smart design and respectable performance, however. Although he says he browned English muffins, bagels and sliced bread, we wish Slate's Tom Bartlett had described his methodology in a bit more detail.

According to reviewers, the DeLonghi DTT980 is one of the most stylish toasters available. It earns high marks for sleek good looks and simple controls, even though some reviewers say it could do a better job of browning. Owners like the automatic lift-and-lower rack, the soft bell that rings when toast is ready and its simple controls. The DeLonghi toaster has useful features, including extra-wide self-centering slots as well as a Cancel button. The DeLonghi toaster looks great, but the KitchenAid KMTT200 (*est. $70) browns more consistently and costs a lot less.
