Owners and reviewers agree that the Michael Graves 4-Slice 24301, a Target exclusive, is an excellent toaster with an attractive white plastic housing accented with silver. Reviewers say that toast comes out evenly browned and crisp. As with most four-slice toasters, each pair of slots works independently, making this toaster a good choice for families. If you're looking for the best all-around four-slice toaster, reviews single out the KitchenAid KMTT400 (*Est. $100), which has a metal housing and is also slightly smaller than the Michael Graves toaster.

After putting this toaster and seven others through their paces, Cook's Country magazine published the best review of the Michael Graves 4-Slice toaster. Editors there compare it to seven other toasters, toasting a variety of breads. To round out the performance picture, we turned to Target.com, which is the home to a variety of Michael Graves-designed products, and read more than a dozen candid user reviews of this four-slice toaster.

Our Sources

1. Cook's Illustrated Magazine

Cook's Illustrated puts eight four-slice toasters through rigorous tests, evaluating each toaster's ability to toast on the light, medium and dark settings. Editors also toasted bagels, pastries, and waffles. Finally, they took a hard look at design, including controls and crumb trays. No toasters was without flaws: even the top-rated model "took up more counter space than we'd prefer," editors remark.

2. Target.com

The Michael Graves Design toaster earns a middling average score of 3.5 out of five from around 10 owners. Some satisfied consumers cite the Cook's Country article as the reason they bought the Michael Graves toaster, and they praise the design and low price. Others, however, complain that the toaster toasts unevenly, and one person claims a faulty unit nearly started a fire.
