The versatile Gerber Ultra Dual Flush Elongated ErgoHeight DF-21-318 has two flushing capacities -- 1.6-gallons per flush (gpf) for solid waste or 1.1 gpf for liquids. Using fewer gallons of water to flush liquids can save hundreds of gallons of water annually, but in hands-on testing, the flush was less effective than toilets using more water. This is a pressure-assist toilet, which can work better than gravity toilets in homes with troublesome plumbing. This toilet comes in three colors and doesn't include a seat. The impressive 10-year limited warranty covers the china and vessel, with five-year coverage on other parts. Of course, in order to get the water savings of a dual flush toilet, you actually have to be mindful of selecting the right flush. If that's too much trouble, consider the American Standard Compact Cadet 3 FloWise (*Est. $390), which isn't a dual-flush toilet, but only uses 1.28 gallons to flush solids or liquids.
The Gerber Ultra Dual Flush Elongated ErgoHeight DF-21-318 is included in performance testing by ConsumerReports.org, where editors compare 25 toilets on waste removal, bowl cleaning during the flush and noise. The 15th edition of Maximum Performance (MaP) Testing of Popular Toilet Models compares more than 1,200 toilets on solid-waste removal and summarizes the results in a lengthy chart. Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine, an engineering industry publication, gives readers the opportunity to vote on products-of-the-year in various categories such as plumbing.

1. ConsumerReports.org
ConsumerReports.org editors evaluate six dual-flush toilets, including the Gerber Ultra Dual Flush Elongated ErgoHeight DF-21-318. How well the flush cleans the bowl and the noise level are additional considerations.

2. Alliance for Water Efficiency
In this report sponsored by 22 municipalities and organizations, more than 1,200 toilets are tested for maximum flush performance using extruded soybean paste and wads of toilet paper to simulate human waste. The minimum performance standard is removal of 250 grams of solid waste, but the Gerber Ultra Dual Flush Elongated ErgoHeight DF-21-318 successfully removes up to 1,000 grams. The report summarizes the results in an easy-to-read chart, which includes information about toilet features.
