Designer toilet
- High-design luxury toilet
- Flushes well
- Tankless design fits small spaces
- Requires electrical outlet
- Some owners require repairs within one year
February 2009. High-fashion design has invaded the bathroom, and the Kohler Purist Hatbox is one example. No reviewers say that this toilet is the best, but its style is modern and fun, and it performs as well or better than most toilets in tests. The Purist Hatbox uses electronics rather than gravity or pressure to flush, so you will need to position it near an electric outlet (or install one for it). The seat closes slowly electronically. Several users do report that the electronics or pump failed within the first year. The Purist Hatbox is compact in size because it has no tank, so it will easily fit into small bathrooms. In MaP testing for waste removal, the Purist Hatbox flushed 800 grams of solid waste, which compares favorably with other highly rated toilets. It may be hard to justify the high price, but the Kohler Purist Hatbox certainly looks elegant. You can spend far less on standard toilets; the TOTO Eco UltraMax MS853113E (*est. $450) is one example.
We found professional reviews of the Kohler Purist Hatbox in Fine Homebuilding's Kitchen and Bath Planning Guide 2008 and in the Maximum Performance (MaP) Testing of Popular Toilet Models 13th Edition. A handful of user reviews are collected at Buzzillions.com and the toilet is top-rated on the luxury goods site 3Luxe.com.

Buzzillions.com collects user reviews from other sites so readers can view them all in one place. The Kohler Purist Hatbox is reviewed by a handful of owners, who give it mixed reviews. Half the reviewers really like it, while one just posts the word "bad." Another had pump and electronics problems the first year and reports that the flushing sound is loud.
