Seventh Generation

Trash bags made of recycled plastic

Pros
  • Made of recycled plastic
  • Reasonably strong
Cons
  • Tend to break when overloaded

We found the best (and, in fact, only) major review of Seventh Generation trash bags at Real Simple magazine, which tested a variety of bags by filling them with trash and pointy-edged boxes, then dragging them over smooth concrete and jagged rocks and dropping them on the pavement from a five-foot height. Seventh Generation is praised for its environmental friendliness, as well as its strength. We also found user comments at Amazon.com.

Reviewers point out that Seventh Generation trash bags are more environmentally friendly than either the budget-priced, Wal-Mart house brand trash bags, America's Choice (*est. $3 for box of 20 13-gallon bags), or the more expensive, reinforced Hefty Ultra Flex (*est. $10 for box of 38 13-gallon bags). Seventh Generation bags are made out of recycled, rather than new, plastic; however, this doesn't mean these bags are biodegradable. Reviews do not indicate any difference in terms of strength between Seventh Generation bags and America's Choice or Hefty.
