Bottom line

The SkyRest Travel Pillow is best used for airline or car travel due to its size and weight, which make it inconvenient for backpacking or camping. With a unique shape designed to allow travelers to rest in a more natural position, most reviews indicate that this is a comfortable pillow. On the downside, it can be somewhat intrusive to other travelers due to its size.

Unconventional look for exceptional comfort. The SkyRest Travel Pillow has a unique look, which provides optimum comfort when traveling in a car or on an airplane. It's a large, inflatable pillow that sits in the user's lap. Shaped like a rectangle with a sloped top, it provides the ideal angle for a seated person to lean forward and rest in a more natural position. Editors at say, "Forget neck cramps and that awkward encounter with your neighbor, this pillow will keep you sleeping at a comfortable angle without ending up on someone else's shoulder." There's no warranty, however; so if it springs a leak, you're faced with trying to repair it or purchase a new one.

Ease of use

Easy to use, although bulky. Users say this pillow is easy to fill, taking about seven breaths of air to inflate it fully. The SkyRest Travel Pillow is larger and heavier than many travel pillows, at about 16 ounces, but most reviewers use this pillow for flights rather than backpacking, so it's not a significant issue. There are a few isolated complaints from owners posting to and who feel it's too bulky when deflated. One owner at explains, "It's similar in volume to carrying a 13-inch laptop although thicker. You'll be able to get it into a briefcase but just barely because of its thickness." The SkyRest is easily wiped down, but it's not machine-washable.
