Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill, November 16, 2009

I like this treadmill alot. This is my first foray into owning one. I needed one that wouldn't take up alot of room. We had a problem with the first one that was delivered. It had a three inch crack in the motor housing. This was not caused by shipping as their was no damage to the packaging. I called Amazon and they were very helpful. The lady I talked to told me to put it back in the box. She sent me another one, and they picked up the damaged one. There are two things which I think should be noted about this treadmill: One: When the advertising says that it only weighs about 98 pounds, be aware. It weighs that, but it's a dead weight. I watched the videos showing those women picking it up and moving it with no problem. There must have been nothing in the treadmill, like a motor and such. The wheels are tiny and they do not swivel. It takes alot of room to be able to swing it around to get it in place. Even my husband was straining moving it around. So my advice is to have help when moving it, especially upstairs like we did. Two: The part that you walk on has a tendency to slightly move sideways (left and right) while using it. If it moves to far, I can hear the side rubbing against the housing. They provide a T-shaped tool to adjust it. I have needed to do that a couple of times. I really like using this treadmill. It has a speed of up to 6 mph. I can only walk at 3.5 mph. After that, I would need to start running. It is very quiet, even using it upstairs while my husband is sleeping. He says he doesn't hear it or my walking on it.

Just What The Doctor Ordered, October 15, 2009

I will keep it short and simple. It is easy and comfortable to use, looks very good, is mobile (but it is heavy), and folds very easily. My wife and I use it for walking. My daughter uses it for running and is very particular but also just over 100 pounds. I had a crack in one portion of the motor cover (it could have been shipping or one of use when it was opened). I emailed the manufacture with the part number that was listed very clearly on their website. It was sent the next day. The product, combined with that kind of service and a 5-year motor warrantee, is a very good value. I am very pleased and recommend it highly.

Second time is a charm!, October 4, 2009

I ordered this product through amazon and received it within a week. Unfortunately, the initial product was defective and did not work. I was disappointed because it was such a large investment and I had been looking forward to getting the treadmill. It is advertised as ready to work out of the box, but the first treadmill would turn on but the belt would not move! I contacted amazon.com and they asked me to get a reference number from the manufacturer (because technically the item was under warranty) and then they would be happy to send me a replacement and pick up the defective merchandise--which they did within one week. The second treadmill did what the first did not--worked right out of the box. I was extremely impressed with amazon's customer support and the fact that I did not get the runaround when the item arrived not working. The manufacturer offered to order parts and have someone come to my house to service the treadmill but I declined--a brand new piece of equipment should not require servicing. Amazon made arrangements for the replacement to be delivered and the other treadmill to be picked up at no cost to me. It was the most convenient inconvenience I have had and though the first one was a dud, the second one was a charm. I have been using the treadmill daily and though it does not have an incline it is perfect for my purposes. I would also warn buyers that while the treadmill is easy to fold and unfold, I have found it a delicate process manuvering it in and out of my guest room (it barely fits through the door because of the width) so ideally storing it in the room or open space where it will be used would be best. All in all I would recommend this product--and most especially from Amazon.com!

The little Engine that COULD!, September 12, 2009

Brief History: I have been running for the better of 8 years. Am 34 now and really have made it part of my current lifestyle. I actually gave my sister a treadmill for her birthday and it was bulky, to say the least. Since my conscious was affected by the bulkiness (as well as the placement of this gift; living room) I decided going the small and portable route. And I WAS RIGHT! This thing WORKS! Even for a jogger, although i can imagine many walkers using this beauty. I normally run at its maximum or near maximum speed which is 6.0 (if you are familiar with treadmills). Lo and behold, it stores away swiftly and effortlessly which no other machine, that i am aware can do! My sister wants one like this instead since hers is taking up much space and in her LIVING ROOM! PS Amazon has a great price and I got it in three days only!

Excellent treadmill for walking, September 11, 2009

I agree with what many others have said that this treadmill is excellent for walking. It does not appear to me that it is large enough or sturdy enough for running. It is definitely great for home use where space is limited. I have been using mine about three times a week for around three months now. The treadmill sits on top of plush carpeting with a treadmill pad underneath the treadmill. So far, I do not seem to be having any trouble using the treadmill on carpet. I don't know if my weight has anything to do with it. I am six feet tall and weigh about 180 lbs. I also found that the heart rate monitor does not work properly and is pretty much useless. Likewise, the audio quality of the built-in stereo speakers is lousy. The following are some comments about the treadmill which primarily have to do with the instructions for setting it up before its first use and for maintaining it: 1) The User's Guide instructs the user to lubricate the treadmill deck before the first use. I called Horizon Customer Tech Support and was told that I should not have to lubricate the treadmill when I first received it if I bought it new. 2) I was told to lubricate the deck after 150 miles of use or 6 months. (Incidentally; in my opinion, the instructions for lubricating the running deck are a little confusing. The confusion involves the fact that the Running Belt is separate from the Running Deck. The Running Belt is on top of the Running Deck. When you lubricate the Running Deck, you must loosen the rear roller bolts so that you can lift up the Running Belt to some extent in order to spray the lubricant fluid over the entire top surface of the Running Deck. You must then tighten the rear roller bolts and then walk on the treadmill for two minutes.) 3) The instructions tell you that the treadmill must be used on a dedicated circuit, which means that you cannot have any other electrical devices running on that circuit except the treadmill. This is practically impossible to find in most homes. The Horizon Customer Tech Support representative told me that it is all right to have other items on the circuit as long as the circuit that the treadmill is on does not have other heavy electrical-use items. 4) A tag came attached to the treadmill saying that you need to allow your treadmill to run for approximately 60 minutes prior to use. Apparently, this is important to allow the belt and motor to recalibrate for proper performance. 5) My treadmill arrived with some large removable signs or tags. When I removed them, some sticky adhesive remained on the treadmill frame. The Customer Tech Support representative told me to use some Goo Gone (a product that can be purchased at hardware stores) to remove the adhesive residue. I purchased some Goo Gone at a hardware store, and it did work in removing the adhesive.
