ProForm CrossTrainer 580s

Pros
  • Owners posting to Sears.com are generally satisfied with the ProForm CrossTrainer 580s treadmill, saying it's easy to assemble and use. This treadmill has a relatively generous 300-pound user weight limit and an adequate 1.75-hp motor.
Cons
  • ProForm's warranty policy on its budget treadmills (only 90 days for labor and most parts) has always been a sticking point with expert reviewers. Also, the belt of the ProForm 580s is fairly narrow at 18" (most treadmill belts are 20" wide).

As with other low-priced ProForm treadmills, opinions of the ProForm CrossTrainer 580s vary wildly between experts and consumers. Editors at TreadmillDoctor.com call the ProForm 580s a big improvement over similarly priced ProForm treadmills, especially praising its cushioning. The 90-day warranty is still a red flag, however. Owners, for the most part, are very happy with the ProForm 580s, which they say is easy to assemble and use (though it's clear this treadmill is aimed at light walkers).

We could only find two sources that talk specifically about the ProForm CrossTrainer 580s: TreadmillDoctor.com, a specialty site that reviews (but doesn't sell) treadmills, and Sears.com, where a few dozen owners of the ProForm CrossTrainer 580s treadmill post their opinions.

Our Sources

1. TreadmillDoctor.com

Usually the Stevenson brothers don't have good things to say about budget-priced ProForm treadmills, but they call the ProForm 580s "a big improvement" over its predecessor and conclude that "it's not a bad effort for $800." They especially like this machine's cushioning, but they're unimpressed with ProForm's warranty coverage. TreadmillDoctor.com reviews more treadmills than any other website.
