19-inch LCD TV with DVD combo

The space-saving Magnavox 19MD350B TV-DVD combo is the perfect size for use in a kitchen or bedroom. Features are modest, but this widescreen LCD TV has decent connectivity, including two HDMI inputs and a PC input, which means this LCD TV-DVD combo can easily double as a computer monitor in a cramped dorm room. The DVD player is fine for playing back commercially recorded DVDs and CDs, and can handle some recordable DVD and CD formats, but support for computer file formats is nonexistent. Still, reviews for this bare-bones model tout its convenient size and solid picture quality for the price.

22-inch TV-DVD combo for best value

If you're on a budget and short on space, users say it's hard to find a more capable choice than the 22-inch Coby TFDVD2295 LCD TV-DVD combo. The TFDVD2295 gets high marks for its performance and plentiful features. This 720p HDTV includes a DVD player that supports most DVD formats, as well as both a USB input and Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot for playing back computer files. The fly in the ointment, however, is that file support isn't especially broad, but the TFDVD2295 TV-DVD combo can at least play back MP3 files and display JPEG images. Picture quality is well regarded, though some take issue with the TV's non-adjustable stand that limits placement flexibility.

Insignia NS-32LB451A11

32-inch LCD TV with Blu-ray player

While most HDTVs with built-in disc players fall short when it comes to other features, the Insignia NS-32LB451A11 is relatively feature-rich and a solid value. First things first, instead of a standard DVD player, this combo includes a built-in Blu-ray Disc player that's also compatible with DVDs and CDs, so your existing disc library will not be obsolete. The Insignia NS-32LB451A11 is also Internet-connectible -- with built-in Wi-Fi for BD-Live content as well as streaming content from a small library of Internet providers, primarily Netflix and Pandora. The USB port is mainly there to provide support for BD-Live features, but you can also play back a limited number of audio formats (WMA, MP3) recorded on a USB drive, though not photo or other file formats. Unfortunately, file support for recordable discs is equally limited. The LCD TV-DVD combo is a solid though not spectacular performer that delivers 1080p resolution so you can see HDTV (broadcast/cable) and Blu-ray images in their highest quality. Some quality-control issues have been reported, but the majority of owners seem more than satisfied and the two-year warranty is longer than average.
