March 2009. Although it's pricy compared to some 32-inch LCD HDTVs, the LG 32LG40 includes an upscaling DVD player and offers picture quality that beats the competition in many ways. Color accuracy is especially good, and myriad available user adjustments make it easy to get things perfect. Black levels are a weakness, however, which means the picture will look more compelling in a well-lit living room or family room instead of a darkened theater room. Great connectivity, including three HDMI inputs, improves flexibility and provides room to grow. If your budget is tighter, the Sharp LC-26DV24U (*est. $480) gets good reviews from most owners, though the screen size is smaller at 26-inches and there are fewer features.
The 32-inch LG 32LG40 is one of the few TV-DVD combos to get much attention from professional reviewers. Reports from CNet.com and PC Magazine are detailed, comprehensive and based on testing. CNet.com also has a handful of user reviews, but Amazon.com has even more.
