Although they don't specifically review the Midland GXT710VP3 two-way radio, both Outdoor Life magazine and MossyOak.com evaluate similar models (with some added features). This radio also receives a fair number of posts from owners on Amazon.com.

The Midland GXT710VP3 two-way radio's features include 121 privacy codes to prevent eavesdropping, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather alerts, a rechargeable battery and a charger stand. The Midland's range is specified at 26 miles, one of the longest ranges of any two-way radio in its price category (though as with any two-way radio, actual range will vary). This Midland radio covers all 22 GMRS and FRS channels. An $85 FCC license is needed to use the long-range GRMS channels, but you can choose to operate the radio in a low-power mode for license-free operation on the FRS channels. This model might be found on eBay, but it's now discontinued. Instead, reviewers point to the Motorola EM1000 (*est. $45 per pair) as best in its price range.

3. Amazon.com

There are about 50 owner-written reviews here for the Midland two-way radio, even though the product itself is no longer available through Amazon.com. Overall, reviews are far more positive than for cheaper radios. The few negative comments concern range and battery life, but the positive reviews far outweigh the negative comments.
