Chicco C5

Pros
  • Large basket
  • Compact fold
Cons
  • Heavy for an umbrella stroller
  • Seat is uncomfortable

The Chicco C5 is positioned somewhere in between Maclaren's classy strollers and Kolcraft's cheap umbrella strollers. The Chicco C5 weighs 13.5 pounds, has a five-position recline and five-point harness, as well as an adjustable footrest and a shade that can be removed. This stroller has received enthusiastic reviews from most owners, who say it's easy to use and inexpensive. Overall, the Chicco C5 is a good compromise for those looking for something nicer than a Kolcraft umbrella stroller, but don't want to spend more on a Maclaren stroller.

There's no shortage of reviewer opinion about the Chicco C5 umbrella stroller among experts and owners. This strollers is evaluated in depth by two very reliable sources, Baby-Gaga.com and the British consumer publication Which.co.uk, and is discussed in the popular baby-gear book, Baby Bargains. The Chicco C5 also receives a handful of posts from parents at Epinions and Amazon.com, but it hasn't been rated by Consumer Reports.

Our Sources

1. Baby-Gaga.com

This expert site is lukewarm about the Chicco C5's merits, saying it "falls flat on its face" in comparison with the more expensive Chicco Tuscany (now discontinued). At Baby-Gaga, each stroller is scored in multiple performance areas, and ratings are based on hands-on tests plus parent interviews.

2. Which.co.uk

The Chicco CT 0.5 receives high marks from this British review site, even though it's described as "not particularly light" and editors say the hood as "flimsy." This publication is an excellent reviewer of strollers. Lab testing and parent feedback is considered in the ratings, and dozens of strollers are tested.

3. Baby Bargains

Editors Denise & Alan Fields recommend baby strollers based on hands-on evaluations, parent feedback and manufacturer reputation. Writeups are critical, and strollers are often compared to the competition. The Chicco C5 is discussed.
