Kolcraft Tour Sport

Budget umbrella stroller

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Inexpensive
  • Steers smoothly
  • Full-featured for a budget stroller
Cons
  • Three-point lap harness
  • Backrest may be too low for tall kids
  • 35-pound weight limit
  • Not as durable as pricier strollers

Experts and parents like the Kolcraft Tour Sport better than super-cheap umbrella strollers. Unlike the $20 cheapies, Kolcraft's 11-pound umbrella stroller has a padded seat that reclines, a parent cupholder, an adjustable sun canopy and a one-year warranty. Users say it folds up easily and compactly, steers nimbly and is tall enough that parents don't have to hunch to reach the handles. Still, reviews say the Kolcraft Tour Sport isn't as durable or full-featured as more expensive strollers. It has a three-point harness (lap straps only, instead of a five-point harness with shoulder straps), which squirmy older kids may be able to wiggle out of.

The Kolcraft Tour Sport stroller lacks a basket underneath the seat, substituting a small bag on the back with a 3-pound weight limit (any more could tip the stroller, the manufacturer says). The stroller itself has a 35-pound weight limit, and some users say the low backrest may not support a tall child's head. If you want a five-point harness, reviews say you could consider the Chicco Ct0.6 (*Est. $75) or The First Years Ignite (*Est. $60); both are otherwise similar to the Kolcraft and reasonably durable, and the Ignite can hold 50 pounds. The pricier UppaBaby G-Lite (*Est. $100) weighs only 8.3 pounds and gets good reviews from experts.

"Baby Bargains," a frequently updated book full of baby-product advice, has an extensive section on strollers -- including Kolcraft's inexpensive strollers. About.com's guide to baby products, Heather Corley, also includes a short synopsis of the Kolcraft Tour Sport in her list of the best lightweight strollers. We found plenty of user reviews of this stroller at Buzzillions.com and Amazon.com.
