Maxi Cosi Mila

This multipurpose umbrella stroller carries a hefty price tag

Pros
  • Compatible with Maxi Cosa car seats
  • Removable cupholder
  • Self-standing fold
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Small canopy
  • Not suited for rough terrain

The Maxi Cosi Mila (*Est. $250) is one of the more unusual umbrella strollers on the market. This model is compatible with Maxi Cosi's line of car seats, making it one of the few umbrella strollers that can be used as a travel system. Additionally, when used with an infant carrier, this stroller becomes one of the few umbrella strollers suitable for use from birth. Reviewers say that this feature, combined with the 50-pound maximum weight and longer-than-normal 13-inch footrest drop, means that the Mila can get most children through all of their stroller years. Reviews are generally positive. Storage is plentiful, though difficult to reach when the stroller seat is reclined. Parents say they appreciate the removable cup-holder and the back storage pocket. The Mila maneuvers quite well along smooth surfaces. Plus, the narrow frame makes the stroller suitable for navigating crowded sidewalks or tight spaces.

Unfortunately, like most umbrella strollers, the 5-inch inch wheels aren't large enough to glide over rough roads or tough terrain. The front wheels lock, which can help smooth out a bumpy ride. The stroller also features a three-position, near-flat recline. However, some reviewers say that the adjustment latch can be difficult to use. Perhaps the most touted feature is the compact fold. Unlike other strollers, the Mila pulls up into a self-standing fold to collapse. Other models fold down to the floor. This makes the stroller a particularly good choice for parents with bad backs. The greatest drawback of the Maxi Cosi Mila is its price tag. At $250, it's nearly $100 more than all top-reviewed umbrella strollers. The UPPAbaby G-Lite is $100, and the upscale Maclaren Triumph is $170. Plus, at 17 pounds, the Mila is heavier than some of its competitors. The G-Lite is 8.3 pounds, and the Triumph is 12 pounds. Parents looking for a lightweight bargain stroller may want to look elsewhere.

Reviews of the Maxi Cosi Mila are limited. The stroller is, however, ranked by ConsumerReports.org, one of the leading product review publications. The Mila places 14th out of the 23 umbrella stroller models tested by the site. Mommy blogs are also a good source of information on this stroller. Baby Dash, StrollerqueenReviews.com and Cool Mom Picks all offer details about the Mila but at times focus more on the chic design than the functionality. There are few user reviews of this stroller; Amazon.com has only one.

This is a parent-run site that selects the best products for moms. Picks range from jewelry and fashion to tech gadgets to baby gear. This contributor says that the Maxi Cosi Mila is compact like a traditional umbrella stroller but is "strong and sturdy" like larger models. 5. Amazon.com

This online retailer features just one user-generated review. The reviewer gives the stroller 5 out of 5 stars, saying that the Mila is lightweight and easy to use. Additionally, the model is expensive compared to similar models but "worth the price."
