- Controls everything from TVs to lighting
- Can control devices located in other rooms
- Large 3.7-inch color touch screen
- Very expensive
- Programming may require a pro
If price is no object, reviewers say the Philips Pronto TSU9600 is a luxury remote that can control music, entertainment and lighting equipment throughout your home. Its 3.7-inch color touch screen dwarfs that of the highly rated Logitech Harmony One (*Est. $200). It is both IR and RF capable, so it can control devices anywhere in the home. However, setup is so complicated that professional programming is recommended. As an alternative, the new Logitech Harmony 1100 (*Est. $350) has a big touch screen and earns excellent reviews, but it can't control as many different things (such as lighting) as the Pronto remote control.
Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity and Sound & Vision magazine have by far the best reviews of the Philips Pronto TSU9600 remote control, with expert testers evaluating all aspects of the universal remote and its complicated software. The New York Times and Gizmodo.com limit information about the Pronto to a few paragraphs, but both reviewers do compare the remote with others on the market. A small handful of user reports for the Philips Pronto TSU9600 remote control can be found at Amazon.com.
