Does NOT replace multi-funtion remote, November 18, 2009

I have 3 Sony components, so I thought this remote would well with them. WRONG! The Sony Receiver is practically unusable with this "universal" remote. Look at the manual (on the net) before you buy this and you'll see how few functions it actually performs on any AMP/Receiver! The other items will work, as long as you "learn" along with the remote the buttons you "teach" it to use. Personally, I will never buy another Sony component or remote! I had to buy an OEM replacement for an earlier model remote for $45. It won't perform all the functions, but they are ones I can do without since the exact replacement is $95!! The Receiver was $400, so Sony is telling me the remote is a quarter of the total worth! Heinous!

Hard to beat, November 13, 2009

The Sony RM-VL600 does exactly as described in the product description. The device picked-up my TV without programming. My amplifier was in the program book. The satellite receiver and the DVD player required manual programming. Although some original function buttons are not available on the RM-VL600, one has several unused buttons to choose from. The "Learn" mode is very easy to use. Programming was complete in about 20-min or so. This inexpensive device replaced four devices and it works with no problems.

Universal and powerful, November 2, 2009

The volume control on my Samsung remote for my LCD TV stopped working after 2 years of use, so I started debating to get either a new Samsung remote, which was not quite responsive since day one, or the Sony RM-VL600. Based on the positive reviews, I decided to give Sony a try. The verdict is - I will never look back. Two things really impressed me. one is VL600's learning abilities. I have an OPPO DVD player that does not exist in VL600's manual, but it took me just 3 minutes to get VL600 to learn everything from OPPO's remote. Then I tried to let VL600 to learn the functions of my internet TV-Box remote, and it picked up everything as well in no time. The other is that VL600 is very powerful. Everything controlled by VL600 is more responsive than before, especially my Samsung LCD TV, which I took care of the control by putting in the last Samsung's code on the manual into VL600. One more thing - I was confused by some of the pictures showing it's a white/grey remote, but I was very happy to find it's black.

The Sony RM-VL600 is one of several remotes recommended here. While reviewer Eric A. Taub tests the remote control, the discussion is disappointingly brief.
