Patriot Memory SuperSonic USB 3.0
Patriot Memory SuperSonic USB 3.0

Best USB flash drive

The Patriot Memory SuperSonic USB 3.0 flash drive lives up to its name in many reviewers' tests: its speeds are blistering, even better than its tech specs, and it offers them at a good price and inside a normal-sized, shock-resistant aluminum housing. Most professional reviews give it top marks, including a variety of recommended and editor's choice ratings. Complaints from users and reviewers center around the heat it generates during intense testing and transfers, and the lack of extras, including backup software and somewhere to put the cap while you're using it. Like all USB 3.0 drives, it is compatible with USB 2.0 slots, and its reasonable price tag (similar to equivalent USB 2.0 drives) means that it's worth considering even for USB 2.0 users.

Corsair Flash Survivor USB 3.0
Corsair Flash Survivor USB 3.0

Most durable USB flash drive

The Corsair Flash Survivor USB 3.0 is the latest version of a long line of Flash Survivor USB drives, all of which share the same aircraft-grade aluminum housing. Over the years, reviewers have boiled the drives, sunk them in swimming pools, attacked them with hammers, and dropped them from rooftops and run over them with cars, with no ill effects for the data stored inside. This USB 3.0 version is too new to have many reviews, but Amazon.com and Newegg.com users who have purchased it give it high marks, saying it is speedy enough and all but indestructible. If you don't need this level of destruction-proofing, the Best Reviewed Patriot SuperSonic is shock resistant to 15Gs and is much faster. Versions from 8 GB to 64 GB are available.
