Reviews say the Corsair Flash Voyager GT is a good deal for a USB flash drive for portable data storage. It's a little slower than and not quite as durable as the Corsair Flash Survivor GT (8 GB, *est. $35), the latter being encased in aircraft-grade aluminum rather than rubber. Both have a ten-year warranty, however, and one reviewer suggests the Voyager is still durable enough for in-the-field military use. Some reviews praise the file-transfer speed, others pan it. The Corsair Flash Voyager GT has a data-encryption feature and is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux, but it is not a U3 (storing multiple applications as well as data). If you want a U3 flash drive, reviews recommend the SanDisk Cruzer Titanium (4 GB, *est. $20).

Specialized tech websites like Phoronix.com, BigBruin.com, and TomsHardware.com offer the best coverage of the Corsair Flash Voyager GT, along with the UK's Trusted Reviews.com. All of them test products before reviewing them, and none of them are trying to sell you a flash drive. Amazon.com has about 300 owner reviews, but the various Voyager memory sizes are lumped together. Ratings there are overwhelmingly high, but some say the Voyager is too slow.

Our Sources

1. Phoronix.com

Reviews here are very thorough, but it isn't easy to see at a glance which products rate highest. The gist is the Corsair Force Voyager is not built to withstand as much physical abuse as the Corsair Flash Survivor (*est. $35), but if you don't intend to pummel it, it's a good deal.

2. TrustedReviews.com

Compared with other tech-oriented sources, the UK's Trusted Reviews evaluates a large number of flash drives. It gives a "Recommended" tag and high numerical scored to the Corsair Flash Voyager GT, liking the construction, 10-year warranty, file-transfer speed and even the lanyard.

Review: Corsair Flash Voyager GT 8 GB Review, Andy Vandervell, April 27, 2007

3. BigBruin.com

This review by a frequent Big Bruin contributor gives a "highly recommended" tag to the Corsair Flash Voyager on the basis of speed and durability, although noting that you'll have to live with a bit more heft and "potentially blocking adjacent USB ports when it is plugged in."

Review: 512 MB Corsair Flash Voyager Review, "Spire", Jan. 23, 2005

4. TomsHardware.com

This review tests 12 drives and tests them on access time, read transfer and write transfer. The Corsair Flash Voyager 4 GB is middle of the pack on each test, but its durability makes it a good choice for those who need to carry it outside -- the review suggests a military situation as an example.

5. Amazon.com

Nearly 300 owner reviews give a very high average score to Corsair Flash Voyager, but note that reviews here include all the storage capacities, not just the 8 GB version. Only about 15 percent rate it fewer than four out of five stars, the most common complaint being slowness.
