Great disappointment, November 19, 2009

I received the 64GB flash drive two days ago, and I am returning it today. It has given me problems right from the start. I was able to put about 15GB of data on the drive, but it seemed very sluggish when copying the data and playing back small video files. I have had many small and large size flash drives, but none has given me any problems like the Corsair flash drive has. Yesterday my computer did not consistently detect the flash drive, gave me error messages for perfectly common file types like wmv and sometimes crashed. Today there was absolutely nothing I could do with the drive. I could neither add nor erase data, nor format the drive. It said that the drive was write-protected. I checked online in the Corsair forum and found that this write-protect error seemed quite common, and that the technician responding to such complaints said that Corsair would be willing to replace the drive when that happened. I don't think I want to have a piece of equipment that problematic replaced. I bought the Corsair flash drive because the price was right and the reviews were uniformly positive on Amazon. The reviews are kind of misleading, though, because they also or mostly refer to smaller size Corsair flash drives, which might indeed be good. But I can say for sure that the 64GB drive is not.

Zero protection against bending it - just RUBBER surrounding the circuit board, November 16, 2009

A picture is worth a thousand words, see the customer uploaded image above of the circuitboard removed from the rubber case. It is just a circuit board surrounded by rubber! I pulled it out one day on accident, it died shortly thereafter. NOT sturdy enough for your pocket. PLUS the rubber ring is just that - stretchy rubber! PROS: Cheap and fast, just baby it like it made of glass and backup all your data just in case. Corsair kindly replaced it so that was nice...it just isnt a drive you want to c arry with you everywhere.

Perfect, October 22, 2009
It does what it is exactly supposed to do. This has all my music stored on it that I listen to in my car. Fast, small and has a rubber skin on it for durability. I will probably buy another one soon just for movies I can also play in my car.
Really durable, October 16, 2009
My parents bought me this for school I was a Digital Arts major so I was dealing with bigger files I needed something bigger and quicker...I absolutely loved this the first week I had it I forgot it in my jeans pocket and washed it. Needless to say it survived unscathed and a bit cleaner. Unfortunately I lost it. But I'm writing this right now because I'm purchasing another one.
Good product, October 14, 2009

I've been using this product for nearly a month. I immediately backed up about 12 GB of data to it (a mix of large and small files), which took about 45 minutes as I recall. As I'd been warned, writing large amounts of data to these flash drives isn't particularly fast. From what I've read, this model is about middle of the pack at best in terms of write speed for 16 GB flash drives. (It reads quickly, though.) But for my purposes its reputation for reliability and durability were more important. So far so good. As for the physical device itself, the design is pretty gaudy, but the tough rubber housing makes this item a lot sturdier and presumably better protected than plastic flash drives I've seen.

Our Sources

1. DriverHeaven.net

The Corsair Flash Voyager is among the 19 drives tested here, but it is primarily rated against two other tough drives, the Flash Survivor and the ATP ToughDrive Mini. The Voyager is the slowest of the three when it comes to transfer speeds, but anonymous reviewer "Grace" says this is a design that has clearly endured.

2. Phoronix.com

Reviews here are very thorough, but it isn't easy to see at a glance which products are rated highest. Reviewer Michael Larabel says the Corsair Flash Voyager is not built to withstand as much physical abuse as the Corsair Flash Survivor, but if you don't intend to pummel it, it's a good deal.

3. TrustedReviews.com

Compared with other tech-oriented sources, the U.K.'s Trusted Reviews evaluates a large number of flash drives. Reviewer Andy Vandervell gives the older Corsair Flash Voyager GT a Recommended tag and a high numerical score, praising its construction, 10-year warranty, file-transfer speed and even the lanyard.

4. BigBruin.com

This anonymous review by a frequent Big Bruin contributor gives a Highly Recommended tag to an older version of the Corsair Flash Voyager on the basis of its speed and durability. However, the reviewer says the bulky case may obstruct access to your computer's other USB ports.

5. TomsHardware.com

Schmid and Veltze test 12 drives, assessing access time, read-transfer and write-transfer capabilities. The Corsair Flash Voyager 4 GB finishes in the middle of the pack on each test, but its durability makes it a good choice for those who need to carry it outside, the reviewers say.

6. Amazon.com

More than 350 owner reviews give a very high average score to Corsair Flash Voyager, but it should be noted that reviews cover all storage capacities, not just the 8 GB version. Only about 15 percent of users give the drives fewer than four out of five stars, with the most common complaint being slowness.
