Most secure flash drive
- Self-destructs if password attempts fail
- Erases data if casing is breached
- Sleek design
- Anonymous web browsing
- Overkill for most users
- Expensive
March 2009. Reviewers agree that the IronKey Secure is overkill if you just want portable storage for everyday photos, music and documents. But if you need the highest level of data security available in a small portable drive, the IronKey is your best choice. This svelte silver drive is password-protected with an added layer of security -- upon 10 failed password attempts, the drive over-writes your data. The same thing happens if someone tampers with the case. Another plus is that you can use the drive to surf the web anonymously, leaving no trace behind on the host computer -- handy for those who use public computers. The obvious downside is that the IronKey Secure is expensive. If you want a durable drive but don't need this kind of high-level data security, consider the Corsair Flash Survivor (*est. $40 for 8 GB).
We found reviews for the IronKey Secure at TrustedReviews.com, TestFreaks.com, EverythingUSB.com and Geek.com, all of which are pretty enthralled with this super-secure USB drive. Owner reviews at Amazon.com help round out the picture.

It's clear from this review that Ardjuna Seghers relishes testing the IronKey Secure flash drive, which is likened to a gadget from James Bond's arsenal. This review covers design and features more than performance, but Seghers concludes: "If you want a relatively cheap and portable way to make your sensitive data as secure as possible and surf the web privately and securely from almost any computer, the rugged, waterproof and fast IronKey flash drive is currently your best option."

This review, which includes lots of photos, covers the IronKey Secure in good detail. The security features are the focus here, and reviewer Zac O'Vadka says anonymous web browsing is a real plus. The drive isn't for everyone, O'Vadka concludes, nor is it meant to be.

3. Geek.com
According to anonymous reviewer "Kevin," the IronKey offers a "fantastically geeky level of security paranoia," including anonymous and secure web browsing, which is helpful if you use public computers. The reviewer wishes that interface on the password manager were better, but aside from price, that's the only quibble.
