Dyson All Floors DC15 The Ball

*Est. $450

Dyson All Floors DC15 The Ball

pros
  • Most experts and owners are satisfied with the power and suction of the Dyson DC15 All Floors, also known as The Ball. Testers say its cylindrical hinge makes it easy to maneuver around furniture -- which also makes this vacuum a good choice for those with special needs or limited mobility.
cons
  • According to some reviews, the Dyson DC15 All Floors isn't as effective as other Dyson upright vacuums in picking up pet hair from carpeting, and it offers only an adequate amount of suction. Most testers say it isn't particularly better or worse than other vacuums, but it's certainly more expensive.

Could be almost perfect but...., November 20, 2009

Owning 2 Akita's at the time, I wanted a good dog vacuum. I Owned the original DC07 animal Dyson for about 4 years and a plastic piece broke off that could not be replaced. I got tired of holding the tank to the motor in place with belts. So I decided to purchase another Dyson with a Ball this time. I am down to 1 Akita so tank size was not an issue for me since I am use to emptying the tank with ever use anyway. I would have loved to get the newest DC25 which is lighter but the cord was to short. Big mistake on Dyson's end. With the DC15 as well as the DC07 I can do my 16000. sq foot house with-out plugging and on-plugging. The best price for the DC15 was at Max Vacuum for $399.00 with free shipping. Pro's 1:Seems to vacuum up the dirt on my Berber carpet and floor tile well, but not quite as good as my old DC07. 2: I love the Ball, but it does take some getting use to. 3: LONG cord. Con's 1: "Heavy" just like my DC07 2: Periodically when emptying out the tank the dirt gets stuck and I have to use my hands. 3: "High pitch noise". 4: Not a biggy, but would be nice if DC had the automatic cord rewind.

Mine clogs, September 24, 2009
My Dyson Animal clogs - incessantly. And it has from almost the beginning. It was not close to worth its price.
what the other reviews don't say, August 13, 2009

I haven't read every one of the previous 193 reviews and don't want to be redundant but I want to bring up a few points you may find helpful since I haven't seen these comments. 1. The dyson is easy to take apart and put back together. I take it outside and hose it out, but you can use your bathtub too. I feel cleaner giving it a quick washing now and then to remove the dust inside that builds up. 2. You don't have to buy a new filter but there is a filter that you do need to wash out now and then. I didn't know or forgot about that until my carpet cleaner told me. (and then I started the taking apart and washing process) 3. Spend the money and buy the stiff brush. (on Amazon) I don't think the turbine head is useful and don't use it. The stiff brush is fantastic for stairs, upholstery & fabric, pet hair and cleaning along the wall. (I haven't found a vacumn yet that vacumns closely along the wall without using a tool) 4. If you are debating about the ball; the vacumn is easy to use but I wonder if I would buy the ball again. The only time I really find it useful is vacumning along my serpentine dressers, but still, a tool gets closer so I have to do that anyway. It does steer with just a flick of the wrist but I found I have to consciously bend my wrist to take advantage of it. Most vacumning is done back and forth anyway. I have used my vacumn since it came out on the market. (Nothing has cracked or broken on mine) There is a frustrating learning curve to learn how to use the telescoping wand and take things apart and in using the tools without them flying off the wand. After you become familiar, it's a piece of cake. It's still awkward vacumning stairs. The long hose is too stiff and I have had the vacumn fall on my head when using it for stairs. I put it on the stair landing and it gets pulled down on me sometimes. I hate carrying it up and down and find it easier to have a man around to carry it for me. Maybe I am just spoiled! All in all, I do love my vacumn.

Pros and Cons. Have had for 5 years now, own two dogs., June 20, 2009

Foremost the Dyson Animal is a good vacuum. But it's just one of many floor tools we own. I have yet to find anything that does it all. I live in Burbank, CA and it's real forte is picking up minute particulate that comes from all the cars in L.A. I'm always amazed at the volume of sooty dirt that the canister has trapped. If you have allergies (as I do) I would highly recommend it as the HEPA filter does a great job of capturing allergens. It's great with the dog hair too on the second floor carpet and the first floor hardwood and area rugs. There's technique too. The handle height controls how high the brush rides, so to get the brush to really dig in you need to tilt the handle higher than it's normal position. But it does have its downsides. The vacuum is a little heavy for my wife and she's no slouch, so I can imagine it would be very unwieldy for the elderly or anyone trying to lug it upstairs. The detachable hose is not the easiest to deal with either. It has a lot of spring tension to retract when replaced and it's that tension that pulls against you when you are trying to use the attachments. And it is a bit of a pain to flip the nozzle, pull out the hose and add attachment. It does not go under furniture or low tables. I'm often on hand to move furniture, lift couches and move tables when we clean. It just can't work like a canister vacuum. Also the design maximizes suction by riding relatively low. The shortcoming of this is that it tends to push larger debris such as leaves (from our indoor ficus), dry dog food and pebbles out of the way rather than picking them up. For large debris we just use our Bissell carpet sweeper. About two years ago I vacuumed up some drywall dust and the performance really suffered until I disassembled the entire canister (far beyond what you are supposed to do) and cleaned all the cyclone chambers and HEPA filters and got it working to par again. The pet hair and floor attachment don't get used much because we did not see any performance difference compared to just setting the upright to bare floors. Using the vacuum on stairs isn't pleasant either. But I still like the vacuum. You don't need bags. It's almost indestructible (polycarbonate). I've pulled it over plenty (see hose tension) and slammed it into walls and furniture and it has held up well. I had a Phantom Cyclone before the Dyson and every time it touched something a piece of plastic broke off. In closing I like the fact that it gets that superfine dust and pollen and I feel like our rugs are quite clean while I'm sitting on the floor playing with the kids and the dogs. I hope this helps.

THIS VACUUM ROCKS!!, June 6, 2009

As a long time fan of Dyson, we recently upgraded to the Dyson DC15 and it ROCKS!! For over 5 years we had the original yellow Dyson DC07 and after years of faithful service we decided to get a new one. And I'm so glad we did! Dyson has made so many ergonomic improvements on the DC15 its a pleasure to vacuum :) That's right I said it! Vacuuming is fun and easy once again! Our DC07 is still works well and we're keeping it for the more dirty clean ups like the garage. Thank you Dyson for another fantastic product!!
