Reviewers say the Dyson DC18 Slim All Floors is a solid bagless upright vacuum that performs well on carpet and bare floors. The DC18 holds up well in independent testing but doesn't outclass the less expensive Kenmore Progressive 36932 (*Est. $220). Still, feedback at user-review sites is consistently excellent: owners are enthusiastic about the DC18's strong suction, light weight (compared to other Dyson vacuum cleaners) and easy maneuverability. One downside of bagless vacuums in general is that it's nearly impossible to avoid some exposure to dust when you're emptying the container. For that reason, experts often recommend that asthma or allergy sufferers use a bagging vacuum cleaner.
