too big for a light weight vacuumm and too small for a regular vacuum job, January 12, 2010

I can't complain so much about this vacuum because it works ok but I'm disappointed for the price paid. This vacuum is called slim but it's not that light and small. I replaced my hoover and I'm kind of frustrated because this vacuum doesn't catch dog hair if I don't pass the vacuum 2 or 3 times on te same spot. It's not that great for the money you paid. Well, there is a good thing compared to the hoover I have, it's not so noisy but I never care about vacuum being loud. Other thing that I miss is to be able to control how high I want the brush. The Ball technology is a little weird, but you get used with that and you see later how easier is the job with this ball technology to move the vacuum. Empty and dump the dirt from the vacuum container. Since I have dogs, that thing about "dump the dirt with clean hands" in fact doesn't work. Everytime I have to dump the dirt from the vacuum container I have to put my hand to push the dirt because of the hair of the dog that stuck all dirt inside of the container. So this vacuum is not so good if you have lots of hair to catch. Overall this vacuum is ok, but If I could choose again I would thing twice before get this dyson for this price.

Disappointed, January 8, 2010

I've owned my Dyson DC18 Slim for two years. I was so excited to have a lightweight vacuum that was easy to maneuver but that's the best thing about it. The cord seems really short compared to the other vacuums I've owned. It makes a selling point of how easy you can empty the dirt container but they didn't mention that you also have to pound it on the garbage can to get everything out (which creates a lot of dust). My attachment doesn't stay attached to the vacuum as I'm using it. And the vacuum has to be upright in a certain position before you can use the hose. The hose has a very long wand in it that doesn't always go down with ease. And finally, after two years, my Dyson will no longer stand upright on it's own. This was an expensive vacuum and I'm so disappointed that I've only had it for two years and disliked it for almost the same amount of time. I went to return it but the store wanted to charge $100 to restock it! The one thing I do love about it is the way it picks up on tile. With other vacuums I could always feel a few crumbs coming back to hit me in the legs but I've never had that problem with the Dyson DC18 Slim.

Compact, good manueverability but short extension cord, December 20, 2009

I like this Dyson DC18 Slim vacuum, since I have limited closet space and wanted a relatively compact vacuum. This vacuum can also be easily manuevered. My only gripe is that the extension cord is shorter than most other vacuums, which requires you to unplug/plug the vacuum into the closest outlet. Given the cost of this vacuum, why would Dyson skimp on the extension cord? Other than that, no complaints.

The pros and cons of a dyson slim, December 3, 2009

I read many reviews before I purchased this vacuum so now that I have had it for almost a year I thought I would share what I like and don't like about it. Here are some of the reasons I like this vacuum. It fits nicely in my coat closet. It is easy to dump the dirt and it is not messy if you hold it over the trash can. Some people say it it messy, but I haven't had that problem. Ireally like how you can dump it quickly and not have to mess with a bag. The cord length is perfect for my house. I have to unplug a little, but if the cord was longer it would just get in the way. The suction is good It gets under, through, and around things. Works great on hard floors. Things I don't like: It doesn't always stay standing up. Does not have a retractable cord. When you reach with the wand to clean something it knocks the vacuum over. But it doesn't take much to knock it over. Things to be aware of: The start stop button takes a pretty hard push. There is no self propel so if you are used to that it is a little harder to push. The attachment aren't great, but that's no big deal to me. I got mine on sale for a little over $200 with tax and I probably wouldn't spend much more than that, I didn't get the DC 24 because this one was less expensive, but I am kind of a tightwad and only get things on sale anyway. It is probably not the best vacuum for a person with arthritis because it requires a lot of pushing and twisting the wrist. Overall, it is a good vacuum and I would buy it again. There are probably better ones out there, but if you can get this one on sale it is worth it.

small yet heavy, September 18, 2009

i bought this vacuum after using two friend's larger model dysons. love how powerful those models are and the ease of emptying the canisters. this smaller vacuum is as efficient as the larger ones. the emptying process is the same ... yay! the house seems fresher with use than my old regular vacuum. no dust put back into the air while turned on. and no battling with opening and cleaning of the filter. yay! only complaint is that this small vacuum is heavier than i expected.
