Editors say it is great on bare floors and gets dirt out of carpet, and its controls are very easy to use. It is a bit slow at picking up pet hair, and the handle tends to stick after a while.

Popular Mechanics editors pit three popular upright vacuum cleaners against one another in head-to-head testing, including the Dyson DC28 Animal. The DC28 Animal emerges as the winner, although all three models in the test performed adequately. One downside noted is its size, which makes it cumbersome to clean under tables and around furniture.
