The Miele S7280 Jazz (also sold as the S7280 Salsa, in red) gets good ratings in professional tests for its cleaning performance on both carpet and hard floors. Its features include adjustable suction, HEPA filtration and a separate motor for the brushroll. It's a bit heavy (22 pounds), but Miele's patented pivoting body makes it fairly easy to maneuver, and it's very quiet. We did see a couple of complaints from users about reliability, including problems with the plastic underbody coming loose and catching on carpets. This vacuum does not rate as well as the more expensive Miele S7580 Bolero (*Est. $800) with both professionals and users. However, its lower price tag may be worth the trade-off. If you're willing to consider a bagless model in the same price range, we found very good reviews for the Dyson DC28 Animal (*Est. $530) .
The Miele S7280 Jazz has been reviewed by both ConsumerReports.org and its U.K. counterpart, Which? magazine. Both publications put upright and canister vacuums through the paces, testing them on carpets and hard floors and rating their handling, noise level, emissions control and pet-hair pickup. The Jazz also receives a recommendation from Ristenbatt Vacuum Cleaner Service, a retail site that specializes in high-end vacuums. User reviews for this model are scarce, but we found about 20 comments at Amazon.com, Epinions.com and the retail site AllergyBuyersClub.com.
