Reviewers say the Sony PSP 2000 is currently the best available handheld video game console. It's more expensive than the competition, but reviewers say it's worth it for the big screen, high-resolution graphics and user-friendly controls. The design is lightweight and thin; on the flip side, some users say it feels flimsy. In addition to games, the PSP can also play music and movies on UMD discs. The Nintendo DS (*est. $130) is a consideration for a less expensive handheld gaming device. The DS doesn't have the highest-quality graphics, but it does come with dual three-inch screens, and reviewers say it's a nice portable console for kids. A newer version of the PSP, the PSP 3000 (*est. $170), draws kudos from reviewers, but screen issues have generated a fair share of uncomplimentary comments as well.

CNET has the best write-up for the Sony PSP 2000, and the accompanying video review is a nice extra. PCMag.com and ArsTechnica.com also have detailed coverage, and both do a great job of balancing enthusiasm with criticism. Video game consoles are one product category where user reviews are especially helpful. Amazon.com has some above-average posts offering balanced critiques and some basic comparative analysis. The video user reviews at ExpoTV.com are worth watching too, especially if you'd like a close-up look at the Sony PSP 2000.
