Rather than reviews of individual wall oven models -- which are almost impossible to come by -- we consulted brand surveys by J.D. Power and Associates and Consumer Reports. Epinions.com does have a handful of reviews of some wall oven models, including a write-up for the Maytag MEW6530DD.

If you're looking for a single wall oven with a convection feature, the 30-inch electric Maytag MEW6530DDW wall oven costs less than most, and comes from one of the more reliable brands. This oven has three oven racks, electronic controls and a self-cleaning feature, and Maytag has a better track record for repairs than competing (and more expensive) brands like Electrolux and Thermador. Design-wise, however, the Maytag has a smallish oven window, and its control panel isn't quite as elegant as that of some pricier ovens, like the Wolf SO30FS (*est. $3,850). You can get this Maytag oven in stainless steel for about $300 more.

Editors of Consumer Reports evaluate 14 wall ovens in a wide range of prices, and publish the results of a reader survey regarding brand reliability. Maytag ovens are included in the reliability survey, but not among the models tested by editors.

2. Sears.com

The MEW6530DDW gets a negative review from one owner who says that the touch panel had to be replaced twice. The positive ratings here are mainly for the double version, the Maytag MEW6630DDW wall oven, but they are still helpful since mechanics and controls are similar. Two owners of the double version give it perfect scores, while the third owner says the electronic control panel needed two replacements.

3. Epinions.com

This single review on Epinions.com notes a persistent problem with the oven door, which tends to loosen itself over time. Otherwise, the owner likes its performance.

J.D. Power surveys nearly 15,000 consumers about major home appliances in this 2008 customer satisfaction survey. Brands (but not individual models) are rated in seven categories. In this latest survey, Maytag places below average in overall customer satisfaction. It rates about average in warranty, price and operational performance.
