Top budget front-loader
- Relatively quiet
- Mold-reducing door seal
- Very good cleaning performance
- More reliable than others
- Vibrates more than some
- Weak spin cycle
April 2009. The Amana NFW7200TW is one of the least expensive front-loading washing machines available, but its performance in professional tests is comparable to models that cost two to three times as much. It has a 3.5-cubic-foot capacity (small for a front-loader, but average for this price range) and features standard to most front-loading washers, including a stainless-steel drum and several wash and temperature settings. One unusual feature is the Microban-treated seal between the door and wash tub, which the manufacturer says prevents the growth of mold and mildew in the washer -- a common problem in front-loaders. Owners say this Amana washer is quiet, cleans well, doesn't develop an unpleasant odor, and we saw very few reports of reliability problems. If you want the latest design and more features, consider the Samsung WF448AAW (*est. $1,400), which also has a much larger capacity of 4.5 cubic feet.
The Amana NFW7200TW is included in the most recent washing machine roundup from Consumer Reports, and it receives a Budget Buy award from ConsumerGuide.com. We also found owner reviews for this model at HomeDepot.com and AJMadison.com.

The Amana NFW7200TW receives an average of 4.5 (out of five) stars in more than 60 owner-written reviews. All but a few comments are very positive, but there are a few complaints that the spin cycle needs to be run twice to get water out of clothes and that the washer vibrates excessively.
