April 2009. The GE WBVH5200JWW (*est. $670) is an inexpensive front-loading washing machine with a 3.8-cubic-foot capacity, larger than most in this price range. It performs well in professional testing and includes a sanitize cycle, but we read more complaints than compliments from owners about this GE washer. Although the manufacturer claims the normal wash cycle lasts 65 minutes, owners say it often takes much longer to wash a small load of laundry. We also read numerous complaints about reliability, along with reports of mold and mildew buildup and vibration problems. If you don't need the sanitize cycle, consider the more reliable Amana NFW7200TW (*est. $650), which also includes a Microban-treated door seal to inhibit mold growth.

The GE WBVH5200JWW is included in the latest roundup of washing machines from Consumer Reports, and ConsumerGuide.com also has a review of this washer. We read a few dozen owner comments posted at sites like HomeDepot.com and BestBuy.com.
