Samsung WF218ANW

Pros
  • Highly efficient
  • Very good washing performance
  • Large capacity
Cons
  • Mold and musty odors
  • Repairs can be time-consuming

Not only does the Samsung WF218ANW perform well in one recent independent test, but it also gets excellent user reviews at online appliance retailers. This 4-cubic-foot washer is Energy Star-compliant and it has 14 separate wash cycles, four spin speeds, four temperature settings and a matching stackable dryer. Reviewers like the large-capacity washing tub, which can accommodate king-size comforters, and they also say the washer cleans well and extracts most of the water out of their laundry, which cuts down on drying times. Owners also praise its quiet operation and attractive looks. However, we did see several reports that musty odors can develop from water that gets trapped in the door seal -- a common problem that plagues most front-loading washing machines. In addition, even though Samsung wins one major award for customer satisfaction, some owners report that repairs can be time-consuming since it's difficult to find repair technicians in their area. Overall, we found better reviews for the front-loading LG WM2301HW (*Est. $825).

The best review of the Samsung WF218ANW comes from ConsumerReports.org, which includes the washer in its tests of more than 100 front- and top-loading washing machines. The washer also attracts a good number of user reviews at Lowes.com and BestBuy.com, and a handful of reviews can be found at Viewpoints.com and Epinions.com.
