The PUR Ultimate Pitcher water filter pops up in many reviews as the simplest solution to everyday water-quality issues. Although this particular pitcher is no longer available, newer PUR pitchers, including the PUR CR-6000 2-Stage Pitcher (*est. $17) are. According to tests, the dual-filtration system on PUR water filters removes cryptosporidium, which competing Brita pitchers can't handle. Reviewers note, though, that a full pitcher of water takes about 15 minutes to filter by gravity, and an eight- or 10-cup pitcher just isn't enough drinking water for some households.
The PUR Ultimate Pitcher water filter is reviewed by numerous sources, including Consumer Reports, TheGreenGuide.com, NBC's "Today Show" and GoodHousekeeping.com, all of which compare it to other water filters.
